Natural and alternative cancer cures, remedies, nutrition, herbs and treatments for breast cancer. More breast
cancer patients than ever are turning to complementary therapies (also called integrative or alternative medicine), ranging
from dietary changes and acupuncture to massage and guided imagery techniques. More than 80% of cancer patients overall have
tried it, by one count, whether to supplement their prescribed cancer treatment or to ease the side effects of treatment or
the symptoms of the disease itself.
The benefits vary widely and few are backed by solid science (established
Eastern medicine treatments have track records, of course, though not always specific to breast cancer). But for many cancer
sufferers, a psychological benefit is clear. "Integrative medicine allows women to take a bit of control over their care
and feel they have some control over what's going on in their bodies when they can't control chemo or radiation," says
Janine E. Gauthier, PhD, director of clinical services at the cancer integrative medicine program at Rush University Medical
Center in Chicago.
Look before you leap Often, it takes digging and some trial and error before
a woman finds an approach that works for her. Be sure to use common sense as you evaluate a potential therapy—and a
potential therapist—cautions Gauthier. "Especially when patients are diagnosed with a serious illness like cancer,
it can make them quite vulnerable to a host of charlatans that will offer everything under the sun and tell them they can
cure their cancer."
Also, whatever treatments you opt to try, be sure to fill your doctor in: Your medical oncologist
and breast surgeon in particular need to know what you're doing or taking, in case it interferes with the treatment they're
prescribing for you. According to one 2005 survey, 75% of cancer patients who used complementary and alternative medicine
didn't tell their physicians.
Here's a quick look at some of the most common therapies:
1.
Nutrition One of the questions breast cancer patients tend to ask their doctors first is whether they should
start eating differently. Indeed, "Diet plays a huge role in managing symptoms," confirms Mansi V. Shah, RD, clinical
dietitian at the Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Institute at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
But
food is also key because you want to stay as strong as you can to support your treatment in fighting the cancer itself. Says
Shah, "Make sure that you're well nourished and maintain lean body mass so you can complete chemotherapy and have fairly
stable immunity."
A good diet now should include all the usual suspects—fruits, vegetables, whole grains,
and legumes—and also plenty of lean protein, such as turkey, chicken, and fish. "Cancer is a high-energy-utilizing
disease, and if you have nausea and vomiting with chemotherapy, too, you may have unintentional weight loss," Shah explains.
2. Supplements and herbs Since the U.S. government doesn't regulate supplements, few doctors
will recommend anything more than a daily multivitamin, plus perhaps an iron supplement if you're anemic. But that doesn't
stop many women from doing their own research and trying a wide variety of herbs and supplements.
3. Acupuncture Regular needling sessions have also been shown to be helpful in relieving pain, says Roy O. Elam, MD, medical director of
the Vanderbilt Center for Integrative Health in Nashville. And acupuncture may help with nausea, fatigue, hot flashes, and
neuropathy
4. Massage If your treatment is at a cancer or breast center with an integrative medicine
program (more of these are cropping up all over), chances are good that massage is on the menu. "Some people have been
really frozen up by the experience of having cancer and going through an operation, so they desperately need someone to put
hands on them to reconnect with their bodies," says Dr. Elam.
A 2005 study found that breast cancer patients
who got either a massage or did a progressive muscle relaxation exercise for 30 minutes three times a week for five weeks
felt less depressed and angry and had more energy; they also had better immunity. After a mastectomy, regular rubdowns from
a therapist trained in lymphatic drainage may cut your chances of one of the more serious side effects of the surgery: lymphedema.
But if you're at risk for blood clots, your doctor is likely to rule out massages.
5. Stress reduction
and visualization "Under stress, we all experience the fight-or-flight response, which releases chemicals
into your system, and muscles get stressed and tight," explains Gauthier. "But if you learn techniques for turning
on the relaxation response, you can turn off that stress response." The result is that you may have less pain, and you'll
avoid the chronic stress that depletes immunity.
"We can't say that stress causes cancer, but we do have data
that says long-term stress can impair the immune system's functioning," she adds. For guided imagery or visualization,
Gauthier says it works best to use images that are the most motivating for you: "If a patient is using it for relaxation,
they can just see themselves relaxing, or they can see their tissues healthy and pink and back to normal, or they can see
Pac-Man going through and eating up the cancer cells."
6. Yoga Exercise is itself therapeutic
and, like good nutrition, should be a staple of any treatment regimen. But yoga, with its inherent mind-body focus, may be
especially useful for cancer patients.
One small study of lymphoma patients found that those who did a gentle
form of yoga that emphasizes visualization and meditation slept better; while undergoing treatment in another trial, breast
cancer patients receiving radiation who took a yoga class twice a week said they felt better after just one week
Although there's no direct evidence that the use of herbs can increase or decrease the risk of
breast cancer, theoretically, some herbs have estrogen-like actions so they shouldn't be used long-term or by women with a
history of breast cancer or those at high risk. Some of these herbs include: Though they have
very potent anti-cancer properties, they should be used with wisdom

cohosh
chasteberry
dang gui
dong quai
ginseng
hops
licorice
motherwort leaf
saw palmetto

Herbs for Breast HealthNatural Substances that May Reduce the Risk of Breast Cancer. Natural
and alternative cancer cures, remedies, nutrition, herbs and treatments for breast cancer
Women are justifiably
worried about breast cancer. It is the most common malignancy in American women (excluding cancers of the skin), accounting
for more than 25% of all cancers diagnosed. Over 180,000 new cases will be discovered in 2008.
Given the perennial debate over screening recommendations, it rests with every woman to protect herself from this
disease in whatever fashion seems reasonable. Though mainstream American medicine generally downplays the use of herbs or
supplements in health maintenance programs, and though the pharmaceutical industry eschews research on unprofitable molecules,
there is compelling evidence that substances from the “natural” world may be of benefit in protecting women from
breast cancer.
Phytoestrogens
These plant-based hormones act as “adaptogens”
in human tissues by competitively binding to estrogen receptors on cells. This leads to a reduction in estrogen’s influence,
since phytoestrogens don’t stimulate cells in the same way that endogenous estrogen does. Conversely, for menopausal
women, phytoestrogens may alleviate symptoms of estrogen deficiency. Because there is still controversy about phytoestrogens’
effects on breast cancer, most experts still advise women with estrogen-sensitive breast cancers—and those taking Tamoxifen—
to avoid phytoestrogens.
Kudzu: The root of this vine—long used as a food in certain cultures—contains
the isoflavone formononetin, which is converted in the gut to daidzein. Studies in Japan, the US, and Finland have shown that
dietary isoflavones are associated with reduced rates of breast and uterine cancers.
Red clover: Probably the world’s
best-known anti-cancer herb, red clover contains all four classes of phytoestrogens: lignans, coumestans, isoflavones, and
resorcylic acid lactones. In a 2004 study (Breast Cancer Research 6:R170-R179), comparisons between red clover and prescription
hormone replacement therapy showed that red clover (in contrast to HRT) did not increase mammographic breast density after
one year of use.
Soy: Soy contains the isoflavones daidzein and genistein. The latter has been shown to reduce angiogenesis
(a tumor’s ability to form new blood vessels), thus inhibiting a cancer’s ability to grow and metastasize.
Flax
seed: Flax is a rich source of lignans. Aside from binding to estrogen receptors, lignans also produce compounds that increase
the excretion and elimination of endogenous estrogens.
Other phytoestrogen-containing plants (black cohosh, mung beans,
alfalfa, chickpeas, lentils, etc.) can be incorporated into the diet according to one’s tastes. Current recommendations
stress the preference for food sources of phytoestrogens over concentrated tablet or capsule forms.
Antioxidants
Antioxidants reduce the daily oxidative damage—and thus the risk of malignant change—that
occurs in all cells by removing reactive “free radicals” that form as a part of normal cellular metabolism.
Vitamins
C and E: Classic sources of antioxidant activity, these vitamins have been extensively studied. Dosage
recommendations vary. Experts recommend avoidance of synthetic sources.
Carotene: While recent research
has revealed that synthetic beta-carotene may increase risk for certain cancers, the carotene found in natural carrot
oil is a potent antioxidant that reduces risk.
Selenium: This metallic trace element is important in potentiating
the effects of vitamin E.
Alpha lipoic acid: This potent antioxidant is found in red meats, some organ meats, spinach,
broccoli, and yeast (particularly brewer’s yeast). Supplements are also available. High levels of ALA in breast tissue
have been shown to decrease the likelihood of breast cancer metastasis.
Polyphenols are a subclass
of antioxidants with a specific cyclic molecular structure. The absorption of polyphenols from the gut may be impaired by
certain foods, such as refined sugars. Cocoa, green tea, and grape seed are well-known sources of polyphenols.
Breast cancer - the two words women fear the most. It threatens a woman’s self image,
even if she survives the cancer. Statistically, one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer so every woman knows
someone who has or has had this disease. Over 170,000 will be diagnosed per year and over 40,000 will die in the same year.
She knows the impact of the disfiguring surgery to those who have survived and the severe side effects of chemotherapy and
radiation. While not discounting the above, there are much better outcomes possible, especially if the disease has been diagnosed
early.
Breast cancer has usually metastasized (spread) by the time it is detected. The cancer has typically been growing
for 10+ years before it can be detected by exam or scan. The typical barely detectable lump usually contains nearly 50 billion
cancer cells. Mammograms are controversial, some believe that the pressure employed is likely to rupture the tumor, particularly
ductal cancer, and promote metastasis. Others fear the ionizing radiation (x-rays) will themselves induce cancer. Thermography
does not carry this danger but thermograms are not yet as sensitive to small tumors. Translimanated infrared (diaphanography)
is claimed to be as sensitive as mammograms, does not require pressure, and can be used even daily to follow tumor status
since it does not use ionizing radiation. Although first developed in the US, it is only available in China, one hopes that
this will soon change.
Breast cancers are classified by site of origin and cell type. Padget's Disease is a rare condition
associated with ductal carcinoma and is discussed below. Most often breast cancer has only one location in a single breast,
almost half of which originate in the upper and outer quadrant of the breast. Ductal carcinomas comprise over 90% of breast
tumors and originate from the epithelium of the mammary ducts. The remaining are lobular carcinomas since they arise come
from the mammary lobules
Ductal carcinoma
Ductal carcinoma rarely remains in the ducts, but infiltrates into
other breast tissues and lymph nodes, and is termed infiltrating ductal carcinoma. They are usually hard on palpation. Medullary
carcinomas are a special class of ductal carcinoma, the cells are better differentiated and the tumor is often large and soft
to palpation. Ironically, with this larger tumor, the prognosis is better than with invasive ductal carcinoma. Medullary carcinoma
is less invasive. Colloidal intraductal tumors (mucinous tumor) are large, gelatin like masses and usually develop in
older women, they are slow growing and have a more favorable prognosis. Other intraductal carcinomas are papillary and comedo
carcinoma.
Hemp
oil, derived from the seeds of marijuana plant is readily available in most health food stores in America, is a rich and excellent
source of EFA. Hemp fiber is also used to make extremely durable fiber and for making archival materials that can last for
many years. Serendipitously, the first and second draft of the United States declaration of independence
were printed on hemp paper Udo Erasmus PhD
When it comes to oncology, there is no other area more controversial than the relationship
between diet and cancer. While everyone would like to believe that what you eat substantially affects your likelihood of developing
cancer, or that a particular diet can cure cancer, there is little evidence to prove the effect that your diet has.
Reputable
sources agree that there is not a diet that cures cancer outright; however there is very strong evidence that what you eat
and what weight loss detox supplements you take can prevent you from contracting cancer.
In a Nurses Healthy Study,
1,982 women ho had developed breast cancer were followed for 13 years. Over 1,200 of these women had cancer that had not spread,
or metastasized. The survival rates of women whose cancer does spread has a much lower survival rate, about 21% versus 85%
for those whose cancer has not spread.
The foods that these women ate consisted largely of poultry
and fish, which contain protein and Omega-3 fatty acids. These women had a significantly lower risk of death when compared
to those women who did not consume as much. Further, those women who consumed large amounts of hydrogenated oils also had
a higher risk of death. A weight loss detox supplement such as Omega Science is ideal in maintaining a healthy immune system,
heart, skin, brain and eyes. This supplement provides a variety of nutrients recommended by the American Heart Association
including DHA, EPA, and Omega-3 fatty acids. Omega Science insures that women are consuming nutrients vital in reducing the
spread of cancer as well.
In another study by the National Cancer Institute, more than 2,400 people, 975 of who
had breast cancer and consumed a low fat diet for 5 years. The remaining 1,462 consumed great amounts of fat. The low fat
groups experienced a 42% reduction in the recurrence of their cancer.
When you compare foods, such as fruits and vegetables,
it is easier to see how they are helpful in the prevention of breast cancer. These foods contain high levels of antioxidants,
which fight off free radicals. Studies show that free radicals are the main components behind the development of breast cancer
and other cancers. Free radicals in the blood stream are harmful to cells, but antioxidants reduce them by combining with
the free radicals and neutralizing them.
Many people do not consume enough foods that contain antioxidants, so a weight
loss detox supplement that includes them is vital in the diet. Antioxidant Science helps the body in its fight against free
radicals. Additionally, it fights aging, supports detox and promotes alertness. This supplement mixes into an organic energy
drink that contains 5 servings of fruits and vegetables vital to preventing cancer.
However, when you look at fat studies,
it is difficult to see which foods are helpful. For instance, theories suggest that high estrogen levels correlate with a
higher risk for breast cancer and fat stores estrogen. Therefore, if you lower the fat you lower the risk. At the same time,
there is a flawed conclusion involving fat. Many believe that eating fat makes you fat, when this is not necessarily the case.
It is not eating fat that causes body fat; it is eating more calories that are then turned into body fat that causes you to
gain body fat. Additionally, a weight loss detox supplement, such as Weight Science, can assist you in your fight to lose
weight and prevent hormone imbalances. Weight Science supports fitness and weight loss by controlling hunger, burning calories
and assists in carb digestion. Despite the fact that evidence in this area is inconclusive, there is one thing that
many health experts readily agree to and that is a healthy diet and lifestyle are wise choices in the prevention of breast
cancer.
Part of a healthy lifestyle includes regular healthy detox and the supplementing the diet with weight loss detox
supplements. To ensure that our body can defend itself against the cancer causing pollutants in the environment, it is important
to take a supplement such as Probiotic Science. This supplement is designed to defend against the stressors in the environment
and supports healthy cholesterol levels. It also reduces physical stress so that your gut is not inflamed and your body is
able to fight back.
Because toxins are also a cause of breast cancer in women, it's important that you combine Liver
Detox as a part of your healthy diet. Liver Detox contains Milk-Thistle and hepatoprotective amino acids and herbs. These
combine to remove daily toxins and ensure a natural balance while maintaining liver health.
All of these supplements
are available from Martha's Vineyard Holistic Retreat. Here you will find information on weight loss detox supplements as
well as the importance of a regular detox in not only maintaining a healthy lifestyle, but also preventing cancer caused by
the toxins that can be found in our environment as well as in our food.
An Overload Of Toxins Causes Cancer...Reducing
Toxic Overload Vital For Eliminating Cancer
An eminent German oncologist says that cancer is caused by environmental
toxins. Others agree. While there are obviously other issues, fungus, viruses, genetics, etc., the major change in the world
that could have lead to the explosion of cancer over the last 100 years has been the introduction of tens of thousands of
chemicals into the environment. Chemicals that we had never been exposed to before. Ones that our bodies don't know how to
handle.
They overwhelm the defenses of your body and cancer develops. Unfortunately, if industry and the government
they control have their way, it may even become worse.
Biotech companies have been aggressively promoting the use of
genetically modified food. It's a financial goldmine for them. Unfortunately, there are several problems with genetically
modified food. Even the scientists at the FDA resisted them till political pressure from the top approved it. Every independent
study has shown problems with the eating of genetically modified food. Abnormal cell growth being high on the list. And no
wonder.
Jeffrey Smith, author of Seeds of Deception writes on SeedsOfDeception.com:
"More worrisome
is that the "promoter" used inside GM foods could get transferred to bacteria or internal organs.
Promoters act like a light switches, permanently turning on genes that might otherwise be switched off. Scientists believe
that this might create unpredictable health effects, including the potentially pre-cancerous cell growth
found in the animal feeding studies mentioned above.
"Milk from rbGH-treated cows contains an increased amount
of the hormone IGF-1, which is one of the highest risk factors associated with breast and prostate cancer, among others. Soy
allergies skyrocketed by 50% in the UK, coinciding with the introduction of GM soy imports from the U.S."
Foods
are not required to be labeled as GM foods. The only way to make sure you are not eating food that has been genetically modified
is to eat organic food or food labeled non-gmo. Eating organic food will also reduce the amount of chemicals you are ingesting.
Types
of toxins in your body
There are several types of toxic buildups in the body that need to be dealt with when
fighting cancer. First there is cellular toxicity caused by the shunting of toxins into cells due to excess
acidity in the blood, and the inability to release toxins in the cells for that very same reason.
Next is heavy
metal and chemical toxicity coming from years of exposure to highly toxic heavy metals and chemicals. While many
come from the environment, silver amalgam fillings, many vaccines and some other drugs put mercury and other toxins into our
body. Most large fish have elevated mercury levels. Elevated levels of heavy metals disrupt the immune system, and must
be dealt with when fighting cancer.
And then there is the toxic buildup in the colon of undigested
foods and hardened fecal matter. Nutrient absorption is disrupted, and toxins sitting in that decaying mess are reabsorbed
back into the body. This creates a constant stress on the immune system, and a further load on the body's detoxification systems.
Colon cleaning needs to happen on the journey to good health.
The Chlorinated Water and Cancer Connection
Pathogens in water have led to many diseases. But did you know that what's put in your
water to purify it may be causing your cancer (and heart disease)?
The French, with their lower cancer rates from consuming OPCs and resveratrol
in red wine, have made red wine famous for its health benefits. There is another side to their lower cancer rates that most
people don't know...
The
French do not drink chlorinated
water. They ozonate their water to purify it.
Does this make a difference? Absolutely.
"We are quite convinced... that there is an association between cancer
and chlorinated water." Medical
College Of Wisconsin research team
We don't use chlorine because it's safe, we
use it because it is cheap. We essentially still pour bleach in our water before we drink it. The long-term effects
of chlorinated drinking water are disastrous.
According to the U.S. Council Of Environmental Quality, "Cancer risk among
people drinking chlorinated water is 93% higher than among those whose water does not contain chlorine."
It may cause much heart disease too. Dr. Joseph Price wrote a highly
controversial book in the late sixties titled Coronaries/Cholesterol/Chlorine, and concluded that nothing can negate
the incontrovertible fact, that the basic cause of arteriosclerosis, heart attacks and stroke, is chlorine.
Dr. Price later headed up a study using chickens
as test subjects, where two groups of several hundred birds were observed throughout their span to maturity.
One group was given water with chlorine and
the other without. The group raised with
chlorine, when autopsied, showed some level of heart or circulatory disease in every specimen, the group without had no incidence of disease. The group without chlorine grew faster, larger and displayed vigorous
health.
This study
was well received in the poultry industry, and is still used as a reference today. As a result, most large poultry producers
use dechlorinated water.
When chlorine is added to our water, it combines with other natural compounds to form Trihalomethanes (chlorination
byproducts), or THMs. These chlorine byproducts trigger the production of free radicals in the body, causing cell damage, and are highly carcinogenic.
"Although concentrations of these carcinogens (THMs) are low,
it is precisely these low levels that cancer scientists believe are responsible for the majority of human cancers in the United
States". The Environmental Defense Fund
Dr. Robert Carlson, a highly respected University of Minnesota researcher, sums it
up by claiming, "Chlorine is the greatest crippler and killer of modern times!"
Breast cancer, which now affects one in every eight women in North America,
has recently been linked to the accumulation of chlorine compounds in the breast tissue. A study carried out in Hartford Connecticut, the first of it's
kind in North America, found that:
"Women with breast cancer have 50% to 60%higher
levels of organochlorines (chlorination byproducts) in their breast tissue than women without breast cancer."
It is not just drinking chlorinated
water that is the problem.
Up to two thirds of our exposure to chlorine is due to inhalation of steam and skin absorption while showering. A warm shower opens up the pores of the skin and allows
for accelerated absorption of chlorine and other chemicals in water.
The steam we inhale while showering can contain up to 50 times the level of chemicals than tap water due to the fact that
chlorine and most other contaminants vaporize much faster and at a lower temperature than water. Inhalation is a much more
harmful means of exposure since the chlorine gas (chloroform) we inhale goes directly into our blood stream.
"Showering is suspected as the primary
cause of elevated levels of chloroform in nearly every home because of chlorine in the water." Dr Lance Wallace,
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
If
you take showers using chlorinated water and are dealing with cancer, clearly installing a shower filter to dechlorinate your shower water makes good sense.
Other Toxin Sources
In the process of eliminating as
much toxic exposure as possible, you need to limit exposure from the chemicals in your carpets and walls of your home. Unless
you've already taken special efforts to have a chemical free house, formaldehyde and many other chemicals
have been outgassing toxic fumes in yours for years. Hulda Clark, in her books on fighting cancer and other diseases, recommends
that all carpeting be pulled up, paneling and walls taken out and replaced, and so on - if you want to beat cancer. Pretty
drastic stuff. A less overwhelming solution would be to get a photo catalysis air cleaner. Using technology developed by NASA,
it puts out molecules that interact with VOCs, the chemicals put out by carpets, etc. and changes them into harmless carbon
and water molecules.
Personal care items like shampoo, conditioner, or skin lotion often contain ingredients that add
to the overburden of chemicals your immune system must get rid of. Try to use as natural and pure personal care items with
as few chemical listed in the ingredients as possible to reduce that overload. The less overwhelmed your immune system is,
the better it can fight the cancer.
The
buildup of toxins in your body reduces cell oxygenation and toxins will damage DNA, causing cell mutation. The key is to protect
your cells by making sure you are taking plenty of antioxidants, stop drinking chlorinated water or taking showers in it,
and get rid of the buildup of toxins in your body using safe and natural detoxifiers.
There are three types of detoxification to be done, cellular detoxification,
intestinal detoxification and a more general body detoxification in which we will include heavy metal detoxification. There
is some crossover here, any detoxifier will work in more than one way. And remember, it is very important to alkalinize the
body as that must happen before a great deal of detoxification can be done.
Supplements That Detoxify & Support Detox Organs
Toxicity is certainly one of main underlying causes of cancer. If fact, if you have cancer, your body
is toxic. Dead cancer cells are highly toxic. To protect your health, ease detoxification symptoms, and to better fight cancer,
you need to detoxify and to support your detoxification organs so they don't get overwhelmed.
And the very core of what zeolite does is that it first absorbs toxins, including the hard to get rid of heavy
metals. It grabs hold of them and carries them out of the body without your liver having to handle them.
Let's
start by suggesting a supplement for cleaning out the colon. This is especially important for colon cancer.
Turning
on the detoxification process in cells. When you have cancer, most of your cells contain toxins that need to be gotten rid
of. In fact, this toxin overload is probably the underlying cause of your cancer. The toxins disrupt cellular metabolism,
damage the cells, and reduce oxygen levels. All of which contributes to the development of cancer. If you've had chemotherapy,
your body has shunted much of the chemo toxins into cells to get the chemo out of the bloodstream. So your cells are even
in worse shape.
Glutathione
When you have a build-up
of toxins in your body, as you do with cancer - and especially if you have had or are receiving chemotherapy, the glutathione
levels in your cells (and liver) become depleted, and toxins build up in your body. This is because glutathione is your body's
primary cellular detoxifier and antioxidant. Your liver's too. Depleted levels always occur with chronic ill health situations
like cancer.
Glutathione is an amino acid, and thus is available in vitamins. Unfortunately, especially so for something
this important, free glutathione as a supplement is not absorbed by your cells. Whether you take it in pill form or via injections,
almost none gets into your cells or the liver. For years health practitioners have tried to come up with a way to get glutathione
into cells.
Glutathione may inhibit the cancer cell killing abilities of vitamin C, selenium, melatonin,
curcumin, ellagic acid, vitamin D and vitamin K. These all work by generating reactive oxygen species which are counteracted
by glutathione. While it is a great detoxifier, you may want to moderate it's use if you are taking these or similar cancer
fighting supplements.
Supporting the liver and kidneys will help to minimize detoxification side effects
and be a significant help in detoxifying your body. The kidneys flush waste toxins from the body. Every muscle, organ, bone
and tissue you have depends on the kidneys to keep them free from corrosive salts and chemicals. The liver filters and cleans
the blood, breaks down toxic substances, and tries to deal with the overwhelming amount of chemicals and toxins we are exposed
to when battling cancer.
Ralph W. Moss, Ph.D. - "Conventional cancer therapy is so
toxic and dehumanizing that I fear it far more than I fear death from cancer. We know that conventional therapy doesn't work--if
it did, you would not fear cancer any more than you fear pneumonia. It is the utter lack of certainty as to the outcome of
conventional treatment that virtually screams for more freedom of choice in the area of cancer therapy. Yet most alternative
therapies regardless of potential or proven benefit, are outlawed, which forces patients to submit to the failures that we
know don't work, because there's no other choice."
Linda Page, N.D. Ph.D - "Of the women in menopause today, about half start synthetic hormone
replacement, but only half of those stick with it because of the side effects or fear of cancer risk. The threat of
breast and uterine cancer is dramatically increased with HRT"
An Australian team from the University of Queensland
see little, if any, benefit in screening women under 50 years of age, but they do point out some of the serious negative effects
- later ill effects from the radiation they are exposed to during the mammogram, the possibility that an existing tumor may
spread due to the pressure exerted on the breast during screening, and the anxiety caused by frequent false- positive results.
The Canadian researchers point out that a false-positive result may not only produce great stress, but may also lead to unnecessary
biopsies and surgery. They also point out that mammography misses 10-15 per cent of early breast cancers thus providing a
false sense of security.
How Mammography Increases Your Cancer Risk - X-rays and other classes of
ionizing radiation have been, for decades, a proven cause of virtually all types of biological mutations. When such mutations
are not cell-lethal, they endure and accumulate with each additional exposure to x-rays or other ionizing radiation. X-rays
are also an established cause of genomic instability, often a characteristic of the most aggressive cancers. Additionally,
radiation risks are about four times greater for the 1 to 2 percent of women who are silent carriers of the A-T (ataxia-telangiectasia)
gene, which by some estimates accounts for up to 20 percent of all breast cancers diagnosed annually.
When everything is
taken into account, reducing exposure to medical radiation such as unnecessary mammograms would actually likely reduce mortality
rates. The practice of screening mammography itself poses significant and cumulative risks of breast cancer, especially for
premenopausal women. Making matters even worse, false positive diagnoses are very common – as high as 89 percent –
leading many women to be unnecessarily and harmfully treated by mastectomy, more radiation, or chemotherapy. There are instances
where mammography may be warranted. But the fact remains that there are other technologies that are proven to be more effective,
less expensive, and completely harmless, that can save far more lives.
Now, imagine being able to look inside yourself
and be able to get as much as 10 years warning that something is about to develop, giving you ample time to PREVENT the cancer
from forming in the first place by taking the appropriate lifestyle changes that can radically change your health. That technology
already exists, and has been available since the 1960s. Thermographic Breast Screening – A Safer, More Effective Alternative
Dr. Len Saputo explores the latest findings on the effectiveness and shortcomings of
various detection methods used by the mainstream medical community, including mammography, clinical breast exams, ultrasound,
and to a lesser extent, magnetic resonance imaging (MRIs) and PET scans.
Danish researcher Dr. Peter Gotzsche first
made this claim in a study published in "The Lancet" in October 2006. Gotzsche had re-analyzed the studies originally
done on the benefits of mammograms and found them unconvincing. Since then, other doctors have begun to assert that in addition
to failing to offer protection, mammograms — which involve exposing patients to radiation —may actually increase
women's risk of cancer. "The latest evidence shifts the balance towards harm and away from benefits," said Dr. Michael
Baum of University College in London. Gifford-Jones also points to other risks, from the physical to the psychological. According
to some authorities, the squeezing of women's breasts during mammograms may rupture blood vessels, causing cancer to spread
to other parts of the body and actually increasing a patient's risk of death. He also pointed to the trauma suffered by women
who receive false positives from their mammograms, and to the dangerous sense of security felt by those who receive false
negatives
After running her own successful business in Wellness Alternatives, Pamela Hoeppner faced the unthinkable. She was diagnosed
with a malignant, fast-growing breast cancer. Pam declined all conventional treatment and chose an alternative approach with

information at the same time. I particularly enjoyed her unique brand of humor and her gutsy words of wisdom that can't help
but infuse the reader with courage. Tanya Harter Pierce, MA, MFCC, Author of Outsmart Your Cancer: Alternative Non-Toxic Treatments

This easy-to-read alternative treatment guide could save your life. Outsmart Your Cancer explodes the myths about alternative
cancer treatments and explains why non-toxic methods are more effective than conventional ones. This second edition of Outsmart
Your Cancer includes new chapters, an audio CD with inspiring recovery testimonials from cancer survivors, and an incredible
amount of valuable information. Twenty-one different alternative methods are discussed along with real-life stories of people
who completely recovered from a variety of advanced or late-stage cancers using alternative approaches. The book explains
why alternative methods work better than conventional toxic treatments and presents details about the scientific basis for
them, including the amazing formula called Protocel, which has produced incredible cancer recoveries over the past twenty
years. more
The late Dr. Lee had done his homework even after medical school ended and it showed within both of his books. Everything
is explained simply, concisely, thoroughly and in easily understandable terms. Topics include: biochemistry of the body and
synthetic drugs and hormones, mechanisms of the body, glands and functions, the estrogen myth and results of HRT study, female
cancers and causes, autoimmune disorders, pros of natural progesterone and details of all relevant hormones, the pharmaceutical
community and conventional medicine practices, illness and natural prevention, nutrition and exercise, osteoporosis and bone
re-building, vitamins, herbs and minerals, heart disease and strokes, insulin and glucose, thyroid problems, liver health
and many, many more that tie everything together so sensibly. Without the specific label of a holistic doctor, Dr. Lee obviously
believed and practiced a more natural way for his patients to live with optimal health and well-being. His books attest to
the facts that natural is always best; synthetic drugs will always have side effects because they are foreign substances to
our bodies; radical surgery is not always the best answer and menopause is not a to-be-feared disease.More
An informative and absorbing read for both medical practitioners and their patients, What Your Doctor May Not Tell You
About Breast Cancer takes aim at "the breast cancer industry" with a barrage of thought-provoking ammunition.
The book is equal parts criticism and suggestion. Current health treatments, including HRT, receive serious condemnation,
and authors John Lee and David Zava carefully provide plenty of medical research to back up claims that excessive estrogen
is a main source of cancer-causing irregularities. While the names of all the different natural and synthetic hormones can
get overwhelming for the lay reader, with perseverance your new vocabulary of terms like androstenedione, estradiol,
and cortisol will enable you to communicate more effectively with your doctors. The authors credit these hormones
not just with a role in cancer, but with culpability for everything from insomnia and acne to fatigue and migraines. A full
chapter extols the virtues of natural progesterone cream, and urges women to order their own saliva tests for proper evaluation
of their hormone levels. Diet and exercise recommendations are simple, outlining reasons to limit fats, sugars, and meats
while increasing vegetables and adding a multivitamin. These recommendations extend to adolescents and urge getting off the
couch and beginning a gentle exercise program to women of all ages and in each stage of life. --Jill Lightner--This

More and more Americans, especially those with serious illnesses such as breast cancer, are turning to complementary and alternative
medicine to supplement their Western treatments. This collection of essays edited by oncologist Tripathy and acupuncturist/herbalists
Cohen and Tagliaferri (who herself is a breast cancer survivor) is intended to serve as a guide to the alternative therapies
most often used by women with breast cancer. The book includes dense and sometimes meandering chapters on approaches such
as Chinese Medicine, vitamin and mineral supplementation, meditation and prayer. The authors maintain that little research
has been conducted on these therapies because of lack of funding and the difficulty in evaluating alternative medicine separately
from conventional, but that data has become increasingly available. Although most of the chapters are largely based on research,
others rely simply on seemingly improbable anecdotes (for example, one chapter describes a patient who recovered from inflammatory
breast cancer after she began following a macrobiotic diet). Despite its inconsistencies, women with breast cancer looking
for alternative therapies might find this book to be a good start in their own research. Copyright 2002 Cahners Business

The lack of a theory of cancer and especially breast cancer has made treatment difficult and empirical. The book is divided
into four parts. The first part discusses iodine. From published facts, we can arrive at a proposal that iodine could be the
first phase of a two phase cancer defence system. It appears that iodine in the extra-cellular fluid outside of the cells
is the main surveillance system for abnormal cells. Iodine also triggers the natural death of normal cells in the body. There
are many cells types in the body undergoing a natural death. For example some of the cells in the stomach have lives of only
2-3 days. The name of this process is apoptosis. Carefully documented descriptions of the cancer process at different places
in the body reveals most cancers have similar stages through which it passes. The cancers are not really cancer until the
cells start to move by invasion through the nearby connective tissue. Cells develop abnormalities for a variety of reasons
and can continue to become abnormal all the way up through atypical cells and to carcinoma in situ. Carcinoma in situ is the
dividing line between the two phases of cancer development. Iodine in correct doses will reverse all of the changes up to
and including the carcinoma in situ. The thyroid hormone controls connective tissue function. So connective tissue around
organs forms a structural biological barrier to the spread of cancer. Cancer spread to distant organs only develops in the
connective tissue of those organs. Therefore, if the connective tissue defence is not strong then the cancerous cell from
a distant site can land there and grow. If however the thyroid hormone level in the connective tissue is high enough then
the connective tissue will perform its normal defence duties and not allow the cancer cell to enter it and develop. Using
these principles, fibrocystic disease and breast cancer become more understandable. Supplemental iodine in the correct doses
will remove all lesions from carcinoma in situ back to just an abnormal cell by triggering death of these cells by apoptosis.
Spread of cancer cells in the connective tissue can be arrested by adequate treatment with thyroid hormone to strengthen the
connective tissue barrier. more
Vitamin D deficiency is the most common medical condition in the world. In America alone, over 200 million people lack sufficient
levels of vitamin D and may consequently suffer from chronic health conditions, ranging from daily annoyances like fatigue
and pain to life-threatening illnesses such as diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. But few people know why vitamin D is so
important and what they can do to avoid the myriad ailments associated with deficiency, including heart disease, cancer, and
osteoporosis. There is no better person to demystify this vitamin and showcase its place in human health than author Michael
F. Holick, M.D., Ph.D.-the father of modern vitamin D research. With more than three decades spent studying the relationship
between vitamin D, limited sun exposure, and human well-being, Dr. Holick shares his findings on how combining the natural
curative properties of the sun along with small lifestyle changes can help everyone to live a substantially healthier life.
Armed with a three-step plan incorporating safe amounts of sun exposure, the right supplementation, and eating foods rich
in vitamin D, Dr. Holick provides prescriptive advice for anyone- from relatively healthy people to those suffering from chronic
or even fatal diseases- on how to easily rebuild and maintain optimal levels of this essential hormone. More
Not all fats are bad. In fact, doctors and researchers have discovered that some fats are essential for optimum health—that's
why they're called essental fatty acids. Flax and flaxseed oil is nature's richest source of omega3 fatty acids. This book
reveals how this important missing nutrient in your diet can help prevent heart disease, arthritis, chronic pain and inflammation.
Flax is also a source of a group of compounds called lignans, that may prevent certain types of cancer, especially breast
and prostate cancer. Highquality, coldpressed flaxseed oil has a delicious, nutty flavor, making it easy to incorporate into
your diet with 101 innovative flax recipes. more
Some years ago a British surgeon blasted American doctors as "immoral" for screening women under 50
for breast cancer. On a visit to the Long Island Jewish Hospital Medical Center Dr. Baum said the screening was "opportunistic"
and did more harm than good. "Over 99 percent of premenopausal women will have no benefit from screening. Even for women
over 50, there has been only a one percent biopsy rate as a result of screening in the United Kingdom. The density of the
breast in younger women make mammography a highly unreliable procedure." (Medical Tribune, 3/26/92)
A yet unpublished Canadian study even suggests, the rumor goes, that younger women are more likely to die if they expose themselves
to mammograms instead of just relying on physical breast exams. The investigators say this earlier finding has not proven
to be true but Dr. Cornelia Barnes of the University of Toronto said: "We will not say that mammography kills. The conclusion
that will be reached is that younger women do not benefit [by having a reduced mortality]." (Emphasis added.)
Dr.
Barnes said the danger of early mammograms is not from radiation but from false-positive results that can lead to unnecessary
biopsies, resulting in scar tissue that can make subsequent mammograms more difficult to read. "Screening mammography poses significant and cumulative risks of breast cancer for premenopausal women. The routine
practice of taking four films of each breast annually results in approximately 1 rad (radiation absorbed dose) exposure, about
1,000 times greater than that from a chest x-ray. The premenopausal breast is highly sensitive to radiation, each 1 rad exposure
increasing breast cancer risk by about 1 percent, with a cumulative 10 percent increased risk for each breast over a decade's
screening. These risks are even greater for younger women subject to "baseline screening." Says

In 1937 Dr
Szent-Gyorgy was awarded the Nobel Prize for discovering that essential fatty acid when combined with sulphur-rich proteins
enhances cellular oxygenation. Essential fatty acids are major components of cell membranes.Their deficiencies
compromise cellular integrity makes the cell membranes porous and jeopardizes the ability of cells to eliminate toxins.Omega-3 fatty acids have been shown to inhibit aggressive forms ofcancers. The omega-3 fatty acids
are one of the essential fatty acids and nutrients that the body cannot manufacture and are ingested directly from food or
supplements. They are required for optimal cellular functions, cellular communications, and reversal of degenerative diseases,
structural cellular integrity, cellular respiration and overall health .The human body needs essential fats to facilitate
oxygen transport to the cells through the cell membranes. EFAs work as oxygen magnets by attractingand transferring oxygen that is in the blood stream to the cells and tissues .In the absence of EFA in the diet,
oxygenbreathed in will not be utilized by the cells and tissues because EFA control transfer of oxygen
between cells. Our hormones rely totally on inter and intracellular communications throughout the body. EFA clean the receptor
sites of cells to facilitate these communications.
Mechanism of EFA’s Action
EFA’s ability to attract oxygen can be demonstrated in real life situation. When
exposed to air and/or sunlight, they go bad and rancid very quickly. This process referred to as oxidation is due to the ability
of EFA to attract oxygen and elicit oxidation. The implication of this is that EFA work in the body by attracting oxygen through
oxidation over a very short period of time. This attraction and affinity for oxygen is what makes EFA an oxygenating, alkalizing
and anti-cancer supplement.Because they are short acting, continuous daily supplementation with EFA is
necessary in the management of cancer and asa protective against organ degeneration for life.
Omega-3
deficiency is the sixth biggest killer of Americans, according to a new study. Harvard University researchers looked at 12
dietary, lifestyle and metabolic risk factors such as tobacco smoking and high blood pressure, and used a mathematical model
to determine how many fatalities could have been prevented if better practices had been observed. The study determined that
there were 72,000-96,000 preventable deaths each year due to omega-3 deficiency, highlighting the importance of establishing
a dietary reference intake (DRI) for omega-3 forms such as EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid). more...

has discovered a totally natural formula that not only protects against the development of cancer but people all over the
world who have been diagnosed with incurable cancer and sent home to die have actually been cured and now lead normal healthy
lives." Research has suggested that omega-3 fatty acids, or essential fatty acids (EFAs), can help lower cholesterol,
regulate heartbeat, and thin the blood, thereby lessening the risk of heart disease. It's also possible that the omega-3 group
may aid in treating depression, according to neuroscientist Andrew L. Stoll, MD, of Harvard Medical School, who has studied
the effects of omega-3s on the illness.

Nascent Iodine is a unique, readily assimilable, safe form of iodine that is rapidly
absorbed and used by the body when taken as a nutritional supplement. It is associated with a wide range of benefits, not
limited to supporting thyroid function and regulating metabolism, boosting energy levels (when iodine is deficient), supporting
and maintaining detoxification systems and processes, supporting immune system function, fighting infections (natural antiseptic),
and many other healthy benefits. Because of its antiseptic properties, it also can be used effectively to purify water for
drinking. One drop provides 400 micrograms of Nascent Iodine in a base of organic grain alcohol.
Thyroid
Disorder Two main thyroid disorders: Hyperthyroid and Hypothyroid. The thyroid
hormones regulate (1) metabolism, (2) growth and developement, (3) the activity of the nervous system. An under production
of these hormones is a hypothyroid condition, while an overproduction creates a hyperthyroid condition.
If vitamin D3 levels among populations worldwide were increased, 600,000 cases of breast and colorectal cancers could be prevented
each year, according to researchers from the Moores Cancer Center at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). This
includes nearly 150,000 cases of cancer that could be prevented in the United States alone. The researchers estimate that
250,000 cases of colorectal cancer and 350,000 cases of breast cancer could be prevented worldwide by increasing intake of
vitamin D3, particularly in countries north of the equator. Optimizing your vitamin D levels could help you to prevent as many as 16 different types of cancer including
pancreatic, lung, breast, ovarian, prostate, and colon cancers. Further, optimal vitamin D levels are also known to positively influence the following conditions: Heart disease, Diabetes, Inflammatory bowel disease,
Rheumatoid arthritis, Multiple sclerosis and osteoporosis.
The justification for interfering in well people's lives must be firmly established before it is acted upon," Coney states
in her exploration of one of the hot topics of the '90s. With baby boomers reaching menopause, the author contends that modern
medicine sees this as another area of life to be managed by an establishment steeped in negative stereotypes of menopausal
women. Menopause, she says, is a natural part of life, not an illness, and it doesn't necessarily require medical intervention.
A New Zealander involved in women's health issues for many years, Coney (Hysterectomy) examines menopause, osteoporosis, hormone
replacement therapy and cervical and breast cancer screening programs, charting "medicine's discovery of the midlife
woman." She shows that some medical interventions have been widely promoted before "the risks and drawbacks have
been fully resolved"-a strategy she calls into question. This is a serious examination of many of the important health
issues faced by midlife women, not a pop guide to getting through.Moore
Breast Cancer : Poisons, Profits, and Prevention by Liane
Clorfene-Casten
The war on cancer, according to investigative reporter and community activist Liane Clorfene-Casten, seems
to be a losing battle--badly waged and severely mismanaged. Tracking how companies create the very toxins that cause cancer
and then profit from the "cures" they peddle, Clorfene-Casten takes to task the government, the American Cancer
Society, and various corporate giants to craft a chilling report on the big business that breast cancer has become.
Why has the focus been on cures rather than prevention? Clorfene-Casten concludes that, as a result of this improper focus,
the population has been brainwashed and businesses have--quite literally--gotten away with murder. "Those who will profit,"
Clorfene-Casten states, "include chemical companies that make not only the cancer-causing pesticides but also the chemotherapy
drugs used to fight cancer. Others are major cancer research centers whose well-connected directors shape the national dialogue
on cancer." Breast Cancer educates its readers about the scourge of breast cancer as it relates to environmental pollution,
even as it encourages us to regard the disease as preventable. The argument is made compellingly through the actual and composite
experiences of individual patients, resulting in a powerful indictment against business, government, and research institutions.
Politics of Breast Cancer: What is the Cancer Industry? The Cancer Industry consists of corporations, organizations and agencies that diminish or mask the extent of
the cancer problem, fail to protect our health, or divert attention away from the need to prevent cancer by finding the causes.
This includes drug companies that, in addition to profiting off cancer treatment drugs, sometimes also produce toxic chemicals
that may be contributing to the high rates of cancer in this country and increasing rates throughout the world. It also includes
the polluting industries that continue to release substances we know or suspect are dangerous to our health, and the public
relations firms and public agencies who protect these polluters. The Cancer Industry includes organizations like the American
Cancer Society, that downplay the risk of cancer from pesticides and other environmental factors, and who historically have
refused to take a stand on environmental regulation. Learn more: Greenaction Cancer Industry Tour
Who Profits from Breast Cancer? Breast Cancer Awareness month's primary sponsor and mastermind of the event in 1985 was Zeneca Pharmaceuticals,

It is less known that Zeneca also
makes herbicides and fungicides. One of their products, the organochlorine pesticide, Acetochlor is implicated as a causal
factor in breast cancer. Its Perry Ohio chemical plant is the third largest source of potential cancer causing pollution in
the U.S., spewing 53,000 pounds of recognized carcinogens into the air in 1996.
